Wright's Checkerspot photoFeeding on Indian Paintbrush (Castilleja spp.). These larvae are barely a quarter inch long. They are shown here just coming out of hibernation, stimulated to wake up by the fresh hostplant provided. These larvae are about 9 months old. Reared in captivity from adult female butterflies caught last summer in the San Gabriel Mountains, California.
